Serora's Ethos

Serora is a place where opposing opinions on any topic are presented equally. We believe through open dialogue and critical thinking, that the best ideas will naturally rise to the top.

The Modern Town Hall

Town halls provide a place where people can express ideas, but sometimes ideas that go against the grain are suppressed. Serora gives everyone a voice, enabling all to contribute their ideas to a discussion. Differences in opinion are encouraged.

The best outcomes can only be found if all ideas are explored.

The Magic In The Middle

There are two sides to every story and the truth is often in the middle. To find the middle, ideas from both viewpoints must be presented side by side, understood and critically analysed by the community.

All perspectives must be considered to find the best path forward.

Encouraging Understanding & Empathy

We should not shy away from opposing views, but try to understand them. A good way to do that is to write for both for and against perspectives. This will help you understand the opposing viewpoint and empathise with the people who hold it, and perhaps even help you improve your ideas or thining around the given topic.

Challenging your own ideas is a great way to remove bias and improve your thinking.

The Future Is In Our Hands

We're all floating on the pale blue dot called Earth and it is our collective responsibility to find ways of working together to create the best society we can. Serora aims to be a tool designed to help everyone have their say and collaborate to find solutions to complex questions.

Everyone can play their part in shaping a future we all want to live in.

Principles For Constructive Dialogue

To keep the conversation constructive and focused on finding the common ground, we follow these key principles. A full list of principles can be found in our Community Guidelines.

Be Rational

Present your ideas logically and as clearly as possible - especially if you feel attacked. Back up your responses with facts and data, whether scientific or anecdotal. Serora is a quality over quantity approach. Remember that everyone is 'wrong' at some point and that's great, because it means we are learning.

Be Respectful

We encourage you to challenge all ideas, including your own, but never attack the people for the ideas they have. This only sparks conflict. Sometimes this will require patience, but attacking only leads to escalation. Any attacks on people will be removed.

Be Empathetic

People will have views that differ from yours. While diverse thinking is a beautiful thing it can sometimes be challenging. Remind yourself that people have different life experiences and viewpoints and that only by understanding and effectively communicating can you find the common ground.
